Programme Details

Introduction

The Bachelor of Pharmacy programme incorporates in-depth knowledge on manufacturing, preparing and dispensing drugs, and patient counselling, along with pharmacotherapeutics. The first year focuses on core subjects which encompass the foundation for pharmaceutical sciences. The second year focuses on the application of knowledge and skills through comprehensive field practice in hospital, retail pharmacies and marketing in field settings. The third and fourth years focus on advanced knowledge of pharmacological disease management and clinical pharmacy along with a blend of industrial and drug regulatory affairs. The final semester is based on research, which will enhance the students’ critical thinking and research skills in the field of pharmacy. Upon completion of the programme, participants can practice as licenced pharmacists recognised by the Maldives Allied Health Council. The programme aims to fulfil the health needs of the public and uplift the profession of pharmacy and its socio-cultural impact on society

General Entry Criteria

  • A minimum of 3 principal passes at A-Level (pass in Chemistry and Physics are required) OR

  • A minimum of 3 passes in Shahadha Saanavi (pass in Chemistry and Physics are required) OR

  • Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field AND

  • Certified proficiency in English (GCE O’ level/ IGCSE English pass) OR pass in an equivalent English Language Competency Test

Note:

  • Student with MNQF level 5 Diploma in Pharmacy can gain entry to the 3 rd year of the programme. The prior Diploma should be of 2 years.

  • Student with MNQF level 6 Advanced Diploma in Pharmacy can gain entry to the final year of the programme (4 th year). The prior Advanced Diploma should be of 3 years.

Course Fee:
First year = MVR 4,899 per month x 12 months
(MVR 2,983 under the government free first degree scheme)

Second year = MVR 4,899 per month x 12 months
(MVR 2,983 under the government free first degree scheme)

Third year = MVR 5,149 per month x 12 months
(MVR 3,233 under the government free first degree scheme)

Fourth year = MVR 5,149 per month x 12 months
(MVR 3,233 under the government free first degree scheme)

Upon successful completion of this programme participants will be able to: 

  • Utilize the best dispensing practices

  • Apply knowledge of pharmaceuticals to disease processes and assess problem resolution criteria

  • Communicate pharmaceutical information to patients and medical staff verbally, in writing or electronically

  • Demonstrate the use of pharmacy equipment

  • Solve problems as part of a team effort

  • Work professionally and collaboratively while adhering to ethical principles

  • Implement the knowledge of drug regulatory affairs during the process of importation

  • Develop diet plans for patients with different health conditions

  • Utilize the skills of quality analysis in the process of drug testing

  • Create marketing plans and conduct market analysis of specific drugs
