Villa College and Baros Maldives sign Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for workplace english language programme
1 min read

Villa College has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Baros Maldives to deliver a Basic and Intermediate English Language Skills Development Programme for the resort's employees. Under the agreement, Villa College is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering the programme, extending its educational role beyond the classroom into direct partnership with a single employer. The arrangement reflects a closer form of engagement between higher education and the tourism industry, one built around a specific workplace rather than a general student cohort.

The programme's objective is practical. It is designed to build essential English language skills, strengthen confidence in workplace communication, and improve participants' ability to operate effectively within tourism, resort, and hospitality settings. For a resort, where a guest's impression is shaped as much by everyday interactions with staff as by the quality of a room, this kind of communication skill carries real operational weight.

The delivery model addresses a common constraint in workforce training: taking staff away from their roles in order to learn. Rather than requiring employees to travel off-site, Villa College will run the structured, part-time programme at Baros Maldives itself, allowing participants to build these skills without stepping away from their responsibilities for extended periods.

For participating employees, the agreement frames English proficiency as a foundation for professional growth and career development, not simply a workplace requirement. For other tourism and hospitality operators, it offers a template worth noting: sector-specific training delivered on-site, in direct partnership with an educational institution, can strengthen a workforce without disrupting the operation it supports.
