Villa College hosts the 5th annual Psychology Exhibition
2 min read

On 10 October 2026, Villa College hosted its fifth Annual Psychology Exhibition, establishing an applied platform that connected academic psychological science with everyday public applications. Organised collaboratively by the Psychology Association of Villa College and the School of Psychology and Counselling, the day-long event welcomed students, faculty, and members of the public across the Main Hall, Student Lounge, and West Wing ground floor. Following an opening recitation by association member Aminath Leem Afeef, Dr Aishath Nasheeda, Head of the School of Psychology and Counselling, delivered an introductory address highlighting the critical role of experiential learning and evidence-based mental health awareness. Chief Guest Dr Paul Zeccola, Deputy High Commissioner of Australia to the Maldives, formally inaugurated the proceedings before participating in a guided review of the student-led initiatives.

The exhibition highlighted how higher education institutions can systematically bridge academic research and practical workforce capability. Undergraduate and postgraduate scholars created seven immersive thematic zones designed to translate abstract psychological principles into tangible demonstrations. In the Cognitive Carnival, visitors explored risk evaluation, perception, and memory recall through illusion galleries and false-memory experiments. Concurrently, the Theatrical Personality Showcase blended dramatic performance with personality typologies, staging two-minute scenario plays to demonstrate career alignment using Holland's vocational framework. For organizational leaders, such experiential initiatives reflect the value of communicative, problem-solving competencies over passive learning, providing an effective model for professional training and talent development.

From an operational standpoint, several exhibits offered transferable insights into cognitive performance, team dynamics, and workplace culture. The Mental Training Zone established an athletic training environment where participants tested their focus under active distraction, assessed motor skills under time pressure, and practised guided arousal regulation and visualization techniques. These exercises offer practical utility for corporate environments that demand sustained concentration and stress mitigation under high-stakes conditions. Meanwhile, the Pixie Hollow exhibit explored cross-cultural psychology, using interactive activities such as the Acorn Toss and community message trees to illustrate intercultural communication styles, and the Wicked-themed social psychology stall examined the bystander effect and dismantled pervasive pop-psychology stereotypes. These displays demonstrated how understanding social cognition can reduce workplace bias and improve group collaboration.

Beyond behavioural theory and workplace applications, the exhibition provided direct community health intervention through an Assessment Corner. Postgraduate candidates from the Master of Science in Counselling and Master of Clinical Psychology programmes administered professional mental health screenings and psychosocial education to visitors. Complemented by evolutionary psychology in the Whimsical Garden and neurological exhibits in the Mind Museum, the assessment initiative established an actionable framework for institutional wellness. For business executives evaluating corporate wellbeing strategies, the exhibition demonstrates that accessible, evidence-based screenings and early psychosocial education are vital components in sustaining a resilient, productive, and mentally healthy community.
