Villa College hosts VC YouthQuake 2026 to spotlight youth mental health and well-being
2 min read

On Thursday, 13 August 2026, Villa College convened VC YouthQuake 2026: The Mental Health Summit at the QI Campus Hall. The gathering brought together students, educators, partners, and guests to address the critical dimensions of youth mental health and emotional well-being. For modern organisations and academic institutions alike, understanding and supporting the psychological resilience of young adults represents a fundamental requirement for sustainable community development. By facilitating structured conversations on mental well-being, the summit established a dedicated forum designed to evaluate how collective awareness and educational initiatives can proactively address the contemporary pressures faced by emerging generations.

A central element of the summit was the Modern Minds panel discussion, led by students enrolled in the Foundation in Psychology programme. Drawing directly from their personal experiences, the panellists engaged in a candid dialogue concerning anxiety, burnout, and the pervasive impact of digital media on psychological health. This student-led forum demonstrated that addressing mental health challenges effectively requires transparent, peer-level discourse. By openly examining the drivers of academic stress and personal fatigue, the discussion created a constructive platform for reflection, offering practical insights for professionals and educators seeking to understand the psychological landscape of incoming workforce entrants.

The proceedings further emphasised the value of multi-stakeholder collaboration, reinforced by the attendance of His Excellency David Jessup, Australian High Commissioner to the Maldives. The presence of diplomatic leadership, alongside educators and community partners, highlighted that youth mental health extends beyond campus boundaries into the national and international sphere. Meaningful progress in mental health advocacy relies on institutional alignment across educational, diplomatic, and civic sectors. When leadership across these domains actively participates in dialogue, it reinforces the principle that mental well-being is an essential component of social responsibility and sustainable progress.

Practical engagement served as another vital pillar of the event through interactive stalls designed by psychology students from Villa College in collaboration with Villa International High School. These curated spaces offered participants opportunities to learn, engage, and explore different aspects of psychological well-being through applied methods. This collaborative initiative between tertiary and secondary level learners illustrated how interactive education can actively dismantle the social stigmas that often surround mental health. Rather than treating mental well-being as an abstract concept, the interactive stalls provided accessible, participatory avenues for dialogue and self-reflection.

The outcomes of VC YouthQuake 2026 reinforce the reality that healthier minds build stronger, more adaptable communities. For professionals, educators, and organizational leaders, the summit highlights the necessity of embedding supportive mental health frameworks into daily institutional practices. Sustainable progress requires establishing environments where conversations surrounding burnout and anxiety are addressed constructively, while empowering individuals to lead initiatives that support their peers. Through initiatives of this nature, Villa College continues to combine academic leadership with community-focused engagement to advance societal well-being.
